Government Shutdown Brought to You by Tea Party Tom Foley and His Extremist GOP Friends in Washington

Hartford, Conn. – Tea Party Tom Foley made it crystal clear tonight that he stands with Speaker Boehner and the Republican caucus in the U.S. House on their reckless shutdown of the federal government, despite the economic and human hardship it will create in Connecticut.  According to Hearst Connecticut Media, who interviewed Foley about his position on the GOP shutdown today, “Foley defended the negotiating tactics of House Republicans. ‘So I support what they’re doing,’ Foley said.”  Mr. Foley’s comments come after numerous economic experts have laid out how damaging the government shutdown is for Connecticut’s economy and the state’s most vulnerable.

“Tea Party Tom Foley made it clear to the People of Connecticut tonight that he is standing with his extremist colleagues in the House and that he values his Tea Party allegiance over the welfare of Connecticut’s economy, small businesses, seniors, veterans and school children,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Chair Nancy DiNardo. “Combined with his pandering to the NRA on the common sense gun safety bill that he said he would’ve vetoed, it’s pretty clear that Tom Foley is out of step with mainstream Connecticut.”

“While Governor Malloy continues to move Connecticut’s economy forward, improve public school funding and protect health care for seniors and veterans, Tom Foley is dead set on taking Connecticut backward.  Connecticut can’t afford Tea Party Tom Foley or his irresponsible priorities.”
