NANCY DINARDO COMMEMORATES THE ANNIVERSARY OF WOMEN’S RIGHT TO VOTE

Hartford, CT The Connecticut Democratic Party and Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo released the following statement commemorating the 94th anniversary of the states’ ratification of the U.S. Constitution’s 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote:

“Nearly a century ago today, women’s rights took a step forward with the states’ ratification of the 19th Amendment. The culmination of hard work by trailblazing female leaders, the amendment codified into law that no woman should be denied the right to vote based on gender. It was a step forward for women — and that meant progress for America.

“Democrats have stood up for women everywhere — and we continue to fight for progress. While Republicans prefer to turn back the clock with an 18th century agenda, Democrats are standing up against Hobby Lobby, fighting to protect women against discrimination, and working to close the gender pay gap. We are making progress, but we have more to do — and we can’t afford to go backwards.”
