CT GOP accuses People’s United of “giving away political favors to Democrats”

Despite the fact that Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst is facing questions about his involvement with the apparent spending of taxpayer dollars on a private investigator to attack Democratic Town Committee Chairman Tom Kelly, the Connecticut Republican Party tried yesterday to score political points by making wild accusations about People’s United Bank’s involvement with the case.

That’s right, the Connecticut Republican Party is actually accusing People’s United Bank – a significant Connecticut employer with over 5,000 employees throughout the northeast – of giving preferential treatment to a Democratic Town Committee chairman… so that he can remain in that position. Really?

“Maybe Republicans should worry more about whether their rising star was involved in a scandal regarding taxpayer dollars and the possible abuse of the power rather than attacking a Connecticut employer for providing good customer service. For a party that purports to care deeply about a business friendly environment, this seems pretty hostile to me.” – Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Michael Mandell
