SHOT/CHASER: Condemnation edition

SHOT: For some reason, Connecticut Republican Party Chairman J.R. Romano iscalling on the Connecticut Democratic Party to condemn Che Guevara – who died nearly 50 years ago and had no affiliation to the Democratic Party, the state of Connecticut, or any of our state or federal elected officials (the only reason for the connection to Guevara was a fabricated picture that Mr. Romano forgot to fact-check).

CHASER: Beyond long-dead Marxists, Chairman Romano has refused to condemn the contemporary extremists within his own party. When Donald Trump made the bigoted and un-American call to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, Mr. Romano was silent. When a member of his own state central committee flew the Confederate flag in front of his house – and refused to take it down despite the NAACP calling on him to do so – Mr. Romano was silent. And when his party’s own Senate candidate was accused of anti-LGBT bias, you guessed it, Mr. Romano was silent.

CT Dems’ Reaction:

“Once again, Chairman Romano has undermined the credibility of the Connecticut GOP. Rather than throwing outlandish and far-flung hissy fits, he should look in the mirror and address the racism and outright bigotry that is pervasive in his own party. The ball is in your court, Mr. Romano.”  – Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby
