CT Dems’ Statements On Congressional Nominations

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Nick Balletto released the following statements after all five of Connecticut’s Democratic members of Congress were nominated for re-election by district conventions.

First Congressional District:

Congratulations to John Larson on his re-nomination. Whether it is defending Social Security or protecting jobs in the aerospace industry, Congressman Larson is always working to improve the lives of people in his district. His nomination serves as a reminder of the professionalism and dedication that has served Connecticut — and the nation — well throughout his time in Congress. Connecticut Democrats are ready to work hard to make sure he is re-elected this November.

Second Congressional District

I want to congratulate Joe Courtney on his re-nomination to represent Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District. Whether creating jobs through increased submarine production or protecting families by tackling the opioid epidemic, Congressman Courtney has been a tireless advocate for eastern Connecticut. We stand ready to make phone calls, talk to our neighbors, and build the grassroots organization necessary to ensure Joe Courtney is re-elected this November.

Third Congressional District

Congratulations to my dear friend of many years, Rosa DeLauro, on her re-nomination. In Congress she has led the fight on equal pay for women and been a tireless advocate for labor and civil rights. The daughter of immigrants, she understands that immigration is a cornerstone of the American experience, and her insight is invaluable in Congress. There are few public servants more dedicated to their communities than Rosa DeLauro.

Fourth Congressional District:

Congratulations to Jim Himes on his re-nomination. In his tenure in Congress, Jim has supported and defended the Affordable Care Act and other critically important initiatives to ensure health care access for millions of our neighbors. As a representative for Fairfield County, he has made funding our transportation system a top priority, bringing in millions of much-needed dollars to improve our roads, bridges, and rails. The entire Democratic team and I are ready to work hard toward his re-election this November.

Fifth Congressional District:

I want to congratulate my friend Elizabeth Esty on her re-nomination. As a leader in Congress, she has fought tirelessly to strengthen our nation’s gun laws and to promote equal health care and opportunity for women in Connecticut and across the country. Now more than ever, we need her voice in Washington to fight for the issues that matter most to the middle class and working families in the fifth district. I am confident that Elizabeth will run a strong campaign for re-election in contrast to the hateful, divisive policies of Donald Trump and Clay Cope.

The Bottom Line:

“This year the choice before voters couldn’t be clearer between Donald Trump and his extreme Republican policies and Democrats, who will work to strengthen our communities and build our economy from the middle out. While our colleagues across the aisle aspire to be a rubber stamp for the Trump agenda, Democrats will continue to fight for policies to create jobs and make life better for middle class families.

“Connecticut is better than the Trump-GOP agenda. We need to elect Democrats up and down the ticket to move this state and country forward.”
