Meet The Chair & Vice Chair

Nick Balletto was unanimously elected as the Connecticut Democratic Party Chair in 2015 after serving as State Party Vice Chair for four years under Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo. He was re-elected in January of 2017. Prior to being elected Vice Chair in 2011, Balletto was an active member of the Democratic State Central Committee and his Democratic Town Committee.

Over the last 30 years, Nick has run campaigns, including fundraising and field operations at the national, state and local levels. He served as Chair of the New Haven Democratic Town Committee from 1996 to 2002 and as an alderman on the New Haven Board of Aldermen from 1988 to 1989. He has never lost his commitment to New Haven politics over the years, as he was an important part of the effort that organized the city to achieve significant majorities that helped elect and re-elect Governor Malloy in 2010 and 2014. As Vice Chair, Nick has represented Connecticut nationally on the Executive Committee of the Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC), and served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and twice as Presidential Elector for Connecticut.

In addition to his political involvement, Nick is also an experienced tax accountant.
In 1994, he opened his own tax, accounting and consulting firm – Balletto, Shariff & Associates. He has also served as a Connecticut State Marshall in New Haven County since 1996.

Meet The Vice Chair

Dita Bhargava was unanimously elected Vice Chair of the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee in January 2017. Previously, Dita ran for State Representative in the 151st State Assembly District in 2016. In a highly Republican district that had not elected a Democrat in over a century, Dita ran an energetic, grassroots-focused race, winning over 40% of the vote.

Dita and her family have been proud residents of Greenwich, CT for more than nine years. Dita was born and studied in Canada, earning a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University. Before moving to Connecticut, Dita lived and worked in New York City. She spent over two decades working as a successful Senior Trader and Hedge Fund Portfolio Manager at several financial sector firms including Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Citadel, and Royal Bank of Scotland.

As the daughter of a single immigrant mother who struggled to support a family of four, Dita has worked to help community families through non-profit work. Through her efforts as a board member for several non-profit organizations, Dita has helped promote gender parity, enhance cultural awareness, and aid underserved communities.

Dita is excited to help energize the Connecticut Democratic Party as we enter this new election cycle and begin efforts to recruit new candidates for all levels of office, strengthen the party, and prepare for elections across the state in 2017 and 2018.
