Jennifer Smith Joins Connecticut Democratic Party as Labor Director

(Hartford, Connecticut) — Today, the Connecticut Democratic Party announced that Jennifer Smith will join the staff as labor director.

“Labor Day honors the great improvements union workers fought so hard for, and the victories on behalf of working Americans they’ve contributed to our society,” said Smith.   “So I’m thrilled to be kicking off this Labor Day weekend with the opportunity to work with union members across the state on behalf of the Connecticut Democratic Party.”

Smith is an 11-year veteran of New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199/SEIU.  Since 2006, she has served as the Connecticut political director, where she managed electoral and issue campaigns and worked to mobilize hundreds of union members to take action.  She previously served as Executive Director of Progressive Minnesota, a labor and community-based political organization best known for passing living wage laws and winning a referendum for $100 million in new public school funding.

“I am pleased to welcome Jennifer to the team,” said Nancy DiNardo, Chairwoman of the Connecticut Democratic Party. “Her political experience and organizing skills will serve the party and our good friends in labor well.”

“Jennifer’s role at the party is a great recognition of the needs of working people, and brings those needs to the forefront,” said David Pickus, President of New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199/SEIU.  “She will do an excellent job.”
