Leadership Statements on Malloy Announcement
Hartford, Connecticut – Today, leadership in the Connecticut General Assembly released the following statements:
Senate President Donald E. Williams, Jr.: “I support Governor Malloy’s re-election because he had the courage to make the tough decisions necessary to pull the state out of the great national recession. He has helped small business and increased jobs, reduced the state’s debt, and won bipartisan support for key initiatives. With Governor Malloy, we have avoided the gridlock of Washington, D.C. and helped the families of Connecticut.”
House Speaker Brendan Sharkey: “From putting our fiscal house in order, to growing jobs and encouraging small business, to leading us through natural disasters and human tragedies, Governor Malloy has taken decisive action and shown great leadership. The state of Connecticut fundamentally changed direction when Governor Malloy took office, and I look forward to continuing that progress for the next four years.”
Senate Majority Leader Martin M. Looney: “Governor Malloy has pursued progressive policies that have benefited cities and suburbs alike. He’s helped working families make ends meet by enacting the Earned Income Tax Credit and raising the minimum wage. The Governor is also committed to growing our economy and putting people back work through job training initiatives like STEP-Up and direct investment in growing companies through the Small Business Express program.”
House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz: “Governor Malloy is a fighter for working people and has helped Connecticut turn a corner amid an economic crisis. Our unemployment rate is at the lowest level since 2009, and we are the first state in the nation to raise the minimum wage to an amount that hard working people deserve.”
