ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS, REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN RADIO SILENT
Hartford, CT – It’s been over a week since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the Hobby Lobby case, yet Tom Foley, John McKinney, and the Connecticut GOP have been virtually silent on the decision.
The Court’s ruling has wide ramifications for women’s basic health care rights, and just hours after the decision, the Connecticut Democratic Party publicly stood with women, even launching a petition on the issue. But when it comes to the Republican gubernatorial candidates and the Connecticut GOP, voters have no idea who they support – women, or corporations working against women.
“Just last week, the Hobby Lobby decision fundamentally impacted women’s basic health care rights forever. Yet, Tom Foley and John McKinney have been totally silent. This is not a complicated question – do they support women, or do they stand with corporations that work against women? Voters deserve answers,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo. “There is no doubt about where Democrats stand. We believe health decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor—not her boss. As for the Republicans, they’ve been radio silent, and silence is not an option on an issue as important as this. Where do they stand?”
