CT Dems’ Statement on Not-So-Moderate John Kasich’s Connecticut Appearance

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Alynn Woischke released the following statement on GOP Gov. John Kasich’s campaign appearance in Connecticut.

“John Kasich wants Connecticut voters to believe that he is a sensible, moderate Republican, but his record as Ohio’s governor is anything but moderate. Take his record on women’s reproductive rights. Just this year, he signed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio, stripping critical funding from HIV testing, cancer screening, and the prevention of domestic violence. And thanks to his extreme anti-choice agenda, half of Ohio’s abortion clinics have closed.

“His attacks on women’s rights go back to his time in Congress, when he voted for legislation to make it harder for women to access birth control. He even voted to bar Medicaid funds from covering abortions in cases of rape and incest.

“Donald Trump and Ted Cruz may make extreme statements; but records matter, too, and John Kasich has a record every bit as extreme as the rest of the 2016 Republican field.”
