Chapman’s Racist Tweet Deserves An Explanation
New Fairfield First Selectman Susan Chapman and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton have some explaining to do. Despite being called out for a blatantly racist tweet from Chapman, retweeted by Boughton, calling for an end to walk-ins at Squantz Pond State Park, Chapman refused to apologize, instead deflecting and blaming Democrats, according to Hearst Connecticut Media. Boughton has remained silent on the matter, as has New Fairfield’s state senator, Mike McLachlan.
“This is the same not-so-subtle xenophobia Donald Trump has spread throughout his campaign. If Mark Boughton is seriously considering seeking higher office, he needs to explain why he retweeted such an offensive message, and we hope Mike McLachlan will join us in condemning Chapman’s tweet and the racism behind it. Connecticut deserves better than Trump Republicans and their divisive tactics and rhetoric.” – Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Michael Mandell
