Betsy McCaughey, a former New York lieutenant governor who is often mentioned in Connecticut GOP circles as a potential future candidate, hit the airwaves this morning. In a bizarre appearance on CNN’s New Day, she argued that Muslim immigrants are rapists and called Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims “prudent.”
The Connecticut Republican Party embraced McCaughey, allowing her to speak
to the Connecticut delegation at the Republican National Convention. Will J.R. Romano and the Connecticut GOP continue to stand by McCaughey after her display of outright bigotry on national television?
“If you think Donald Trump is the only Republican spreading racism, hatred, and fear, you’re sorely mistaken. Trumpism extends well into the Connecticut Republican Party and to GOP candidates up and down the ticket. Connecticut residents deserve better than the bigoted rhetoric and regressive policies of Trump Republicans.” – Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby
