CT Democrats to Hold Virtual State Conventions

With Connecticut under strict stay-at-home and social distancing rules, Connecticut Democrats will hold nominating conventions and elections for Democratic National Committee (DNC), State Central Committee membership, and Presidential electors using on-line technology on Saturday, May 9, CT Democratic State Chair Nancy Wyman announced today.

“We are living through unprecedented times that require new thinking and new voting methods in order to keep our democratic process moving, but moving safely,” Wyman said. “The virtual process will protect the health and safety of Democrats, while ensuring each and every vote is properly counted.”

Wyman and Republican Party Chairman JR Romano worked together in March on an agreement to allow virtual voting through this unusual election season, signing a letter filed with the Secretary of the State.

Wyman said the state party has notified Democratic Town Committees across the state of the modified rules for the May 9th conventions. That day, the Democrats will hold two conventions, one for election of DNC and State Central members, and a second to choose Presidential electors.

Nominations are to be submitted by May 1, with voting online or by phone between 8 – 11 a.m. on May 9. Results will be posted by the Democratic State Central Committee on its website, on Facebook, and communicated directly to Democratic Town Committees.
