Connecticut Democrats to Send 74 Delegates to the Democratic National Convention in August
(Hartford, CT) – With Governor Ned Lamont’s signature on legislation that moves the Presidential primary up from the last Tuesday in April to the first, the Connecticut Democrats will begin the process of choosing 74 delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention next August.
The delegate tally increased with the change in primary date, and is calculated based on a 2024 Delegate Selection Plan that was adopted by the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee on April 19th. Had the Presidential primary remained at the later date, Connecticut would have been allotted 63 delegates.
According to the plan, delegates will be chosen on May 1, 2024 to reflect the expressed Democratic presidential preference of the primary voters in each of the state’s five congressional districts. The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago on August 19-23, 2024.
All Connecticut voters registered as Democrats are eligible to be considered as delegates.
An Affirmative Action Committee was appointed by Chairwoman DiNardo on March 1st, 2023 to make sure that the Democratic Party delegate participation is inclusive at all levels.
