In 35 states, every voter has the freedom to vote by mail. Some are very “red” states, like Oklahoma or Idaho. Some are “blue” or “purple” states like Illinois or Georgia. Connecticut voters do not have this option. Under current law, you would have to meet special criteria to qualify for an absentee ballot. Instead, every voter should be able to request one.
Voting YES on this year’s ballot question will give you the option to vote by mail in future elections.
Why Vote Yes?
VOTER FLEXIBILITY: Busy schedules and family commitments often prevent people from getting to the polls. Working parents, care givers, commuters, and others should be able to vote by mail instead. If every voter could request an absentee ballot, more people will have the ability vote. We think that’s healthy for our democracy and urge all Connecticut voters to vote YES.
EXPANDING VOTING RIGHTS: Let’s make sure Connecticut voters have the same access and freedom to vote that people in most other states enjoy. Connecticut should not limit or restrict vote-by-mail to a small group of voters. A YES vote expands voting rights in Connecticut.
REDUCING WAIT TIMES: No one likes long lines and delays at the polls on Election Day. If you exercise your right to vote by mail, you won’t have to face a long wait. And the number of people voting on Election Day is more manageable for poll workers and town officials.
Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?
