CHAIRWOMAN DINARDO’S STATEMENT ON FIRST DAY OF 114th CONGRESS

Hartford, CT — Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo released the following statement on the Oaths of Office taken by Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation in conjunction with the convening of the 114th Congress in Washington:

“Today I stand with the people of Connecticut in congratulating U.S. Representatives John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes and Elizabeth Esty as they are officially sworn in to the 114th Congress. Connecticut is a better state and our country a stronger nation because of their leadership,” stated DiNardo.

“Together, they have worked tirelessly to strengthen our state and national economy while also working to improve our quality of life. Fighting on behalf of Connecticut’s working families, they have been steadfast in pushing for common sense policies for the middle class – from making advanced manufacturing a priority to protecting good-paying jobs in our own backyard including jobs that produce supplies for our military. They were relentless in encouraging critical investments in our infrastructure to ensure safety and accessibility on our roads, bridges and railways, as well as seeking federal support for important projects in order to recover from historic storms and initiatives to improve our resiliency along the shore. They have championed workers’ rights through increased minimum wage, paid sick leave and equal pay, as well as fought to strengthen our national education system including helping Connecticut secure crucial federal funding for early childhood education and making college more affordable.

“I am truly proud of their work to move this state forward and have confidence they will work across the aisle to hold Congress accountable, make real progress, and keep the nation moving in the right direction.”
