Bhargava Statement On Camillo’s Work To Encourage Businesses To Move Out Of State

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Dita Bhargava, who ran against State Rep. Fred Camillo in 2016, released the following statement on Camillo’s decision to attend Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s event aimed a poaching Connecticut businesses.

“I ran against Fred Camillo to help make our community a stronger, more vibrant place, and the idea that he — or any other elected official — would sell out his constituents and actively work to send jobs out of state is appalling. The people of Greenwich deserve a representative who will fight to bring jobs to Connecticut, not someone who works with out of state governors to entice businesses to leave.”

BREAKING: CT Dems file FOIC complaint against Tim Herbst

Hartford, Ct. – This morning the Connecticut Democratic Party filed a complaint with the Freedom of Information Commission (FOIC) to determine whether Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst used taxpayer resources to attack his political opponents. For months, the party has sought public records, but has been stonewalled at every turn. Today’s action is a logical next step in the process.

“We hoped this would be a simple request, yet this lack of transparency is telling” said Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby. “At the core of this issue is whether Tim Herbst used his taxpayer-funded office to go after his political opponents and advance his own political career. Period.

“This is not politics, this is the law. And Tim Herbst is not above it. Elected officials are entrusted with the public’s confidence and their service should reflect that.

“While Tim Herbst uses his remaining months in office to throw tantrums and issue FOI requests of officials who have long since retired, we are simply asking him to restore the public trust that he has lost through years of using the town of Trumbull as a stepping stone to seek any office he can find in Hartford. The taxpayers of Trumbull deserve better, and, frankly, the state of Connecticut needs serious leaders in serious times, not Chris Christie and Donald Trump wannabes.”

CT Dems’ Statement On End Of Legislative Session

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Nick Balletto released the following statement.

“While more work remains, it’s important to recognize that — thanks to the hard work of Democrats — we made real progress on critical areas during this legislative session. We banned the cruel and ineffective practice of anti-LGBTQ conversion therapy. We strengthened penalties for hate crimes. We passed commonsense bail reform to ensure that people are no longer incarcerated just because they are poor. And the legislature passed a constitutional amendment creating a transportation lockbox to pave the way toward a brighter transportation — and economic — future.

“With Donald Trump proposing a backwards agenda that would cause real harm to Connecticut families, it is clear that we need to elect Democrats to fight for our values as a state.”

CT Dems’ Statement On CT Joining U.S. Climate Alliance

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby released the following statement.

“With Donald Trump abdicating his responsibility to protect our planet for future generations, it will come down to states to take meaningful action to combat climate change, and thanks to Governor Malloy’s leadership, Connecticut is doing just that. This is yet another reminder that if we want to push back against the Trump administration’s dangerous agenda, we need to elect Democrats at all levels of government.”
