John McKinney: Out of Touch with Connecticut’s Middle Class
(Hartford, Connecticut) — Today, the Connecticut Democratic Party released the following statement from Executive Director Jonathan Harris.
“Yesterday on WFSB’s ‘Face the State’, when asked by Dennis House, ‘If elected, which measures implemented by Governor Malloy would you rollback or undo?’ Sen. McKinney said as governor, ‘I’m going to reduce taxes by cutting spending at the state level’.
“Here are three examples of the kind of cuts he’d make:
“Sen. McKinney cut spending on the STEP Up for Vets program which provided $10 million to subsidize businesses’ costs of hiring unemployed veterans during their first 180 days on the job.
“He cut the state’s education spending by $122 million. In the same budget, he cut the funding for school-based health clinics by more than 25%. Why would he cut funding for education and vital services for Connecticut’s children?
“Time and again, Sen. McKinney cut spending on programs that directly impact Connecticut’s middle class.”
