STATEMENT FROM NANCY DINARDO ON WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY

Hartford, CT — Connecticut Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo released the following statement commemorating the ratification of the U.S. Constitution’s 19th Amendment, which guarantees women the right to vote:

“Almost a century ago today, women in America took a giant stride forward. The culmination of brave work by those who had long fought for progress, the 19th Amendment codified into law a simple, but elegant principle: gender shouldn’t determine voting status. Women deserve the same rights as men.

“While Republicans have sought to turn back the clock for women—be it on Hobby Lobby, health decisions, or otherwise—Democrats are still standing up for progress. Across Connecticut, Democrats are fighting to close the gender pay gap, defend a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions instead of her boss, and protect women from discrimination in the workplace. We’ve made progress, but there’s still more work to do.”
