GOP Split Over Their Platform
Key Point from the Hartford Courant: “Republican National Committee member John Frey agreed with Proto, saying he also had not read the document – even as a former two-time member of the platform committee.”
CT Dems’ Reaction: “It’s amazing that John Frey – a Republican National Committeeman and state representative – would vote for a platform calling coal a ‘clean’ energy source and attacking both LGBT rights and women’s reproductive rights, without even taking the time to read it.
“This platform echoes the hateful, racist, bigoted campaign of Donald Trump, and it’s clear that John Frey, as well as House Republican Leader Themis Klarides, Senator Art Linares, and flailing gubernatorial candidate Tim Herbst – all of whom attended the GOP convention – have put party before country. Trump’s values contradict Connecticut’s, and the Republicans supporting his candidacy need to answer for their candidate’s policies and rhetoric.” – Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby
