CT Dems’ Statement On Voter Suppression Commission Request

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Nick Balletto released the following statement.

“Secretary Merrill is exactly right. Connecticut voters should be concerned about the intentions of this commission. Starting with Donald Trump’s outrageous lie that 3-5 million people voted illegally in the 2016 election, the people leading this commission have a long history of attempted voter suppression. Democrats will fight to make sure every eligible citizen is able to exercise the right to vote, and we call on our Republican friends to stand with Secretary Merrill as she fights to protect the security of personal information and transparency of elections. Sadly, the only time the GOP chairman has been asked about protecting the right to vote, he echoed the president’s outrageous lies.

“This voter suppression commission has the potential to do real harm by limiting the right of eligible citizens — particularly seniors and people of color — to vote. We appreciate Secretary Merrill’s leadership on this matter.”
