Trickle Down Tim Herbst to Trump: Please raise taxes on middle class CT families

Hartford, Ct. – On Fox and Friends yesterday morning, Tim Herbst came out in strong support of the tax “cut” pushed by Donald Trump and his GOP enablers in Washington.

“I think the tax reform package before the Congress is something that I think needs to get passed. I think it’s good for the country. I think it’s good for people who are feeling the squeeze, and I think that the Republican Congress is poised to pass those tax reforms and really jump start our economy.” – Tim Herbst on Fox and Friends

While the plan would slash taxes for the wealthiest Americans and increase the deficit by $1.5 trillion over 10 years, it would also significantly raise taxes on over 700,000, or nearly half of, Connecticut taxpayers through the elimination of the State and Local Tax Deduction. An average Connecticut taxpayer would lose the ability to deduct nearly $19,000 from their annual tax bills. In short, it would mean a federal tax increase of thousands of dollars for most middle-class Connecticut residents.

“Trickle Down Tim is out of touch again and seeking only to advance his political ambitions at the cost of Connecticut families,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Michael Mandell. “While the wealthiest would see huge handouts, the rest of us would be stuck with the bill. It’s telling that someone who wants to be governor of Connecticut would publicly advocate for massive tax increases on middle-class Connecticut families. Apparently Herbst is more interested in rubber-stamping the dangerous Trump agenda than standing up for the residents of Connecticut. He has no business in public office.”

BONUS: Herbst also claimed that he cut his own pay. In reality, he took a one time 3 percent pay cut… before taking a 22 percent pay raise.
