Democratic State Party Chair on Republicans’ Respect for the Judiciary

Hartford, CT – Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Nick Balletto released the following statement on Governor Malloy’s comments on judicial nominations:

“Governor Malloy was right about the gravity of this issue and the dangers of Connecticut Republican response to the judiciary. Republican gubernatorial candidates have made it perfectly clear they have no respect for the rule of law. They would rather continue to please the McConnell wing of the national Republican Party than continue the norm of a nonpolitical judicial branch in Connecticut. Connecticut needs a leader who is going to put people in the state first and above their own political agendas. Republicans were able to undermine the judicial process in DC, and we cannot allow these politics to infiltrate Connecticut by electing a Republican governor or a Republican legislature who will play politics with the judicial branch. There is a clear choice this fall between the two parties and the respect for the rule of law and the independence of our judicial process, and our party will fight hard to elect Democrats in the legislature and in the Governor’s Office to make certain our institutions remain in tact and embody Connecticut’s values.”
