Clay Cope Wants To Talk About The Presidential Race
Throughout his campaign, GOP congressional candidate Clay Cope has accused U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty of supporting Hillary Clinton in the presidential race (SHOCK!). Yet Mr. Cope, a supporter of Donald Trump, has refused to denounce – or even comment on – his own candidate’s racist, misogynistic, hateful, and bigoted language.
If both Mr. Trump and Mr. Cope were elected, it would be up to the Congress to support or reject the Trump agenda, and, as a candidate for Congress, Mr. Cope owes voters answers on whether or not he agrees with Mr. Trump’s statements and “policy” proposals. Congresswoman Esty has made her feelings on the race clear. Mr. Cope needs to do the same – and if he refuses, he needs to be held accountable.
“Trump supporter Clay Cope is running a campaign based on nothing. He has put forward no ideas of his own. But worse, he has failed even to denounce Donald Trump’s blatant racism. If Cope wants to talk about the presidential race, he needs to answer for the statements of his party’s presumptive nominee. He can’t have it both ways.” – Connecticut Democratic Party spokesman Leigh Appleby
