Hartford, CT – After the CCDL announced their endorsements for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Treasurer, Connecticut Democratic State Party Chair Nick Balletto released the following statement:

“These endorsements tell us more of what we already know: Republicans would rather stand with special interests groups than stand up for our communities. The CCDL lobbied against nearly every piece of gun violence prevention legislation in the Connecticut state legislature. Connecticut has led the country in gun safety legislation, passing sweeping reforms after Sandy Hook and recently becoming one of the first states in the country to pass a ban on bump stocks, and we cannot afford to go backward. Connecticut needs leaders who aren’t afraid to stand up for the safety of our schools and our communities, not candidates who proudly tout endorsements from Connecticut’s NRA.

“What did Republicans need to promise in order to gain the CCDL’s endorsement? Tim Herbst, Joey Markley, Sue Hatfield and Art Linares are risking the lives of Connecticut residents by selling out to the CCDL.”
