Statement from Angie Parkinson on Bob Stefanowski’s Reckless Income Tax Plan
Hartford, CT – Angie Parkinson, a Connecticut public school teacher, released the following statement on Bob Stefanowski’s income tax plan that would raise property taxes, slash services, and drive a $10 billion hole in the budget:
“Bob Stefanowski’s plan is code for one thing: decimating education funding. While leaving a giant hole in our state’s budget, Bob’s irresponsible economic plan will come at a huge cost to our students and teachers. This plan will understaff and under resource educational institutions in Connecticut from UConn to local elementary schools, prompting teacher layoffs and ballooning class sizes. As a teacher, I know this will be devastating to schools, educators and the services we strive to provide the children of Connecticut. To add insult to injury, the plan will create a situation in which property taxes must skyrocket to fill the gap, a burden which will fall disproportionately on poor and middle class folks.”
“Stefanowski is either being reckless or ignorant in pushing this plan. There’s simply no way to look at this draconian plan without seeing that our students and educators will pay the cost.”
