CT Dems’ Statement On Woodbridge And Bethany Elections

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Nick Balletto released the following statement on Democratic victories in Woodbridge and Bethany elections.

Tonight’s results show that Connecticut Democrats are fired up. Over the past several months the state party has been proud to supplement the efforts of local Democrats by hosting dozens of phone banks and calling thousands of voters. We know, even in Republican-leaning towns, that a strong grassroots organization and an inclusive message about our plans to improve the economy for middle-class families can put Democratic candidates over the top. I want to congratulate Beth Heller in Woodbridge and Derry Gorski in Bethany on their successful campaigns.”

CT Dems’ Statement On Joe Visconti’s Gubernatorial Bid

Hartford, Ct. – Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Michael Mandell released the following statement on Joe Visconti’s announcement.

“Joe Visconti is the embodiment of today’s Connecticut Republican Party. Just like the rest of the GOP gubernatorial field, he’s pushing an extreme right-wing agenda. The only difference between Visconti and his Republican rivals is that he’s slightly more vocal about his support for Donald Trump’s anti-Connecticut agenda. But make no mistake, any one of the GOP candidates would be a rubber stamp for Trump’s backwards policies.”

DiNardo Statement On Gov. Malloy’s Announcement

Hartford, Ct. – Democratic National Committeewoman and former Connecticut Democratic Party Chair Nancy DiNardo released the following statement.

“I served as state party chair for six years without a Democratic governor, and I can assure you that we would not be the party we are today without Dan Malloy,” said DiNardo. “I was proud to serve as chair when he was elected governor in 2010 and throughout his first term. The decision today only solidifies Governor Malloy’s commitment to the task and obligation of leading our party and our state. As I’ve seen and learned up close, he has always focused on building a stronger future for our candidates, our elected officials, and our state, no matter if it’s politically expedient. As Connecticut’s Democratic National Committeewoman, I know well that our national party continues to benefit from his leadership and his commitment to the causes in which he believes.”

Balletto Statement On Gov. Malloy’s Announcement

Hartford, Ct. – In response to Governor Dan Malloy’s announcement today, State Party Chair Nick Balletto released the following statement.

“Plain and simple, our party and our state are better off today for Dan Malloy being our governor,” said Balletto. “He proved yet again this afternoon what he’s always been: a leader willing to make the hard choices necessary for the long-term interests of our state and to secure a sustainable future for our residents and our businesses, regardless of the political calculus.

“As the chair of the Connecticut Democratic Party, I am grateful for all he has done and continues to do to support our party, our candidates, and his fellow elected officials – even when he does not gain the credit or notoriety. I know that the work we do will not stop, and I know that the fighter I have come to respect and admire will keep working tirelessly for the causes and party in which he believes. And for that, we will be better off.

“As governor, Dan Malloy has built a stronger Democratic Party. He has inspired grassroots activism, helped elect candidates to local office and the state legislature, and made investments in party infrastructure that will last long beyond his terms in office. A strong Connecticut Democratic Party has led to a much-needed raise for working people, new and comprehensive gun-safety laws, the end of the death penalty in our state, and expanded healthcare access for hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents.  His commitment to our party and the causes it represents haven’t been just about his term in office, but part of his life’s mission. I look forward to working with him in the years ahead to keep making progress toward our shared goals.”
